We were recently featured in PTO Today. You can see the article about green fundraising here. We will also be featured in PTO Today’s April issue. Be sure to check us out!
We will also be featuring a large advertisement as well in the magazine. Let us know what you think when it goes it print in a few weeks!
We recently came across through the EEON list a talk from TED which was quite interesting. It can be seen as a great parallel to environmental education and having students think outside the box. Enjoy the video!
Koru Fundraising offers to help Haiti through the sale of Relief Beads
The company will be donating $1 for each bracelet sold until Valentine’s Day.
It has been with great sadness to see the continued images arriving in from the incomprehensible loss happening in Haiti. Wednesday will most definitely be a day people will remember. It is a tragedy that has affected so many lives. As of Monday, there were over 1,000,000 homeless in Haiti, Canada was missing 1,415 citizens, many of whom live in the Toronto area. The outpouring of support both from the public community as well as the business community has been wonderful to see.
The Koru Fundraising team has spent much of the past few days looking to find the best way for our organization to help. After much deliberation, Koru Fundraising has decided to donate $1 for every Relief Bead sold between now and Valentine’s Day. This means that groups who use the Relief Bead fundraiser over the next four weeks will not only being raising funds with a wonderful, unique product, they will be helping relief efforts in in the devastated country of Haiti. We are encouraging groups to donate a portion of their funds raised to Haiti as well. After Valentine’s Day, Koru Fundraising will likely be directing relief funds to the continued humanitarian crisis in the region of Darfur through Relief International. Through the power of many fundraising groups working to raise funds that they would already be raising, we expect a significant amount of funds to be raised. Our goal is to sell 10,000 bracelets between today and February 14th. There is no upfront cost or financial risk to a participating group. Details of the program can be found at http://korufundraising.com/programs/reliefbeadsfundraiser/ . We hope that our efforts can help to better the lives of all those less fortunate.
With this strategy for raising funds, Koru Fundraising believes that many groups will see our Relief Bead fundraiser as the choice for fundraising over the next month. The suggested groups to work with are high school global issue groups, dance teams, gymnastics and sports teams. We encourage non-profits of all types to contact us today to enquire about our different green fundraising and fair trade fundraising programs. Browsing the web, today we found a great site for helping green schools in Ontario. Its a program sponsored by Metro, the new grocery store that bought out Dominion and is based in Quebec. The program is donating $1,000 to 1,000 local schools who show how they are going green and purportedly have 297 schools on record.
Check out their link at http://www.greenapplegrants.ca/home.en.html. It is so vital that children understand their relation to the earth. Having an easy way to help launch a green team is so helpful. Metro should be commended for their efforts.
For the next 20 days I will be passing on these lovely tips I received on “Things I can do to protect the Earth”. I will be providing one tip a day ! They will be very easy to do and if practiced will certainly make a difference.
Tip 1: Unplug lights, TV’s and other electronic equipment when not in use. When plugged in, even if not in use, electronics still draw phantom power. Meaning they still pull sometimes as high as 50% of the energy it takes to power them when they are actually in use! By unplugging not only will you save electricity, but you will save a ton of money!
